I’m glad my podcast was approved by Apple because I have a brand new CD for you to DL here 😀   This is If at First v.7, and it’s my first in the series since last year when I started doing Memory Lapse.

The differences between IaF and ML are that the IaF recordings are meant to fit on a CD and they are very coherent and delibrate pieces.   I playlist very careful and try to build a different theme for each one.   MLs are 2 hours long (typically) and are a little more free form.  ML is meant to be as if I were spinning live at a party, and as such they are recorded (and broadcast) live and on the fly.   Many times I’ll go into a show not having a fully realized idea of what I want, but as I spin and chat, I figure it out.

I’d also like you to note that my podcasting is set up, so you can now directly download from this site, or by clicking the Apple logo in the sidebar, you can go to my iTunes page and setup the podcast to DL automatically to iTunes.  If you’re not using iTunes, just use the RSS feed.

If you know how to use it, here’s the cue file, just make sure to rename the mp3 and cue file as “If at First v.7” NOT “If%20at%20First%20v.7”.  The cue file helps you break the mp3 into tracks when you burn it to CD -> just follow steps 2 – 4 (completely unnecessary if you’re just putting it on an mp3 player, and optional if you’re burning to CD).

I know… I know… I’m posting this and it’s June; but I did finish recording this last night before midnight!! So woot!!

So this months mix comes from a sound check I was doing for my upcoming Memory Lapse show. I played an old trance song, just goofing around, and a few of my friends flipped out, so I decided to do an old school set. Now you maybe thinking when you hear some of these tracks that it’s not old school, but think about when these songs came out. Some of them are about 10 years old!!

I know… It bugged me out too when i thought about it 😀

So a friend of mine pointed out a file corruption error with the v.5 mix.
Apparently you can’t unzip it.

It’s May… we have a new mix and a new site! If you don’t know yet… I’m a huge fan of dance music, and that’s lead to DJing as a hobby. Every month I try to put out a new mix, and so far this year I’ve been successful!

Click here for the new mix, or use the menu at the top of the page to go to the Downloads section. Downloads are in a Zipped file, so you just DL it… un-zip it and load the mp3 on your iPod, or burn it to CD. If you’re a little more tech savvy, I’ve also included cue files in most of my mixes!

Wow!!! What a month!

Work has been crazy busy. And I’ve been busier, still. As you can see, I’m posting on a new site! I figured it was about time I did something with my time rather than just post to a crappy little forum 🙂

This month was heavily influenced by two things:

• Having a couple of good nights out at lounges (I’m typically more of a club guy)
• The weather!!

Happy April, everyone!
Yeah, yeah… I know it’s the end of the month, almost. I’ll see if I can’t get the May mix to come out a little earlier. I actually recorded this mix last week, I didn’t like how it came out. You see, by some good fortune, I was able to buy some new (used) equipment!!! Two Pioneer CDJ1000 mk2s and a DJM 600. I went a little overboard on the use of sound effects the first time I recorded, otherwise the mixing was fine. This equipment is so much more accurate than what I was using previously. Also, I was able to add a song when I re-did the set.

For those that don’t know… I went to Ultra at the end of March. It was so sick! Went with a really cool bunch of people, and met a bunch more down there! This was year 2 for me, and I plan on making 2009 year 3!
I put a few vids on YouTube (http://youtube.com/vud0013), but their uploader was being stupid, and I stopped after about 6… maybe at some point I’ll finish putting them on there; of course, I also said that about last year’s videos.

It’s a little shorter than they’ve been so far, but it’s a very fun, upbeat set that I think you’ll all enjoy. Like I said, I have new equipment that really opens up the possibilities of what I can do with the music. Right at the beginning I tried something that I previously just could not do with my older set up (see if you can tell what it is!!), and I’ll need to practice it a lot more, but I’d say for my first time, it sounds pretty good. I avoided using the sound effects this time around because I still need to learn how they effect the music and how to control them, although towards the end I did try one subtle effect that I thought added A LOT to the chorus of the track.

Welcome (back), everyone!
I just want to say thank you to everyone that’s been listening. People that get to do what they love usually say something like, “This is my passion. I would do this even if I wasn’t getting paid.” Well, I’m not getting paid to do this, but the sentiment is there. I love doing this, and do it first-and-foremost for myself. But the encouragement and support I’ve been getting over the last few months have made it SSOOOOOOOO much easier to make these mixes happen! So for that, I want to thank everyone for their kind words and open ears.

A quick note: A few people have been asking me where If at First v.1 is, and the short answer is that it’s somewhere, but it’s not really part of the monthly series. The first If at First was a mix I did about two years ago, and even though the track selection was great (I thought), the mixing was not nearly as good as I would have liked it to be.  Now that I started to mix again, I wanted to keep the name, so I have turned it into a monthly series.
So for organization’s sake, and to get the number to line up with the months, since this is a monthly mix, March is v.3b and April will be v.4 the previous 2 mixes have been renumbered so March is now v.3.

This month was A LOT of fun for me to do. I tried a few new things, and feel like I pushed myself a lot… especially in the first half of this set. I learned a lot from this set, and I know that by practicing with music like this my technique is going to get better. This mix sounds very different from what I’ve been doing so far, but I really wanted to do this. Since it’s the March mix, it is part of the If at First series, but it’s subtitled “Intermission” for a reason. So here it is.
I hope you guys enjoy it.

Nice!! 2 months in a row! A week late, but it’s here!  I wanted to go more trancey this time around, but house is just hitting hard all over. I <3 trance, but there was no room for it this month.  Once I get more practice, I may try to go for 2 hour mixes; that should give me a lot more room to play around with my track selection.
