I’m really really sorry everyone.  I’m not going to be spinning tonight.  Usually, I have no problem staying home and re-arranging plans for Wednesday nights, but I couldn’t convince Norman to move his show to tomorrow.  Norman who? Why, Norman Cook, of course!!! Still not sure who that is?  Maybe this will help…

Oh yeah, baby… Fatboy Slim!!!  FBS is one of the first major non-trance DJs I started to follow… a long, long time ago.  He’s doing his only East Coast performance tonight, so I’m going down for a night of idioticy!  I saw him a few years ago down at Ultra, and it was the most intense, high-energy set I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing!  Hopefully I’ll have some pics and video tomorrow!  😀

I’m glad my podcast was approved by Apple because I have a brand new CD for you to DL here 😀   This is If at First v.7, and it’s my first in the series since last year when I started doing Memory Lapse.

The differences between IaF and ML are that the IaF recordings are meant to fit on a CD and they are very coherent and delibrate pieces.   I playlist very careful and try to build a different theme for each one.   MLs are 2 hours long (typically) and are a little more free form.  ML is meant to be as if I were spinning live at a party, and as such they are recorded (and broadcast) live and on the fly.   Many times I’ll go into a show not having a fully realized idea of what I want, but as I spin and chat, I figure it out.

I’d also like you to note that my podcasting is set up, so you can now directly download from this site, or by clicking the Apple logo in the sidebar, you can go to my iTunes page and setup the podcast to DL automatically to iTunes.  If you’re not using iTunes, just use the RSS feed.

If you know how to use it, here’s the cue file, just make sure to rename the mp3 and cue file as “If at First v.7” NOT “If%20at%20First%20v.7”.  The cue file helps you break the mp3 into tracks when you burn it to CD -> just follow steps 2 – 4 (completely unnecessary if you’re just putting it on an mp3 player, and optional if you’re burning to CD).

I’m re-releasing my CD from a few months ago, The Many Shades of Night, for a few reasons. First of all, I never officially released it here on this site. Secondly, I’m setting up podcasting and wanted to try it out! 😀

The Many Shades of Night is an example of the variety of electronic music and how we can be in love with it all.  It doesn’t have to always be house… or trance… or whatever.

I was hoping start podcasting with this show, but the quality of the recording is sub-par.  I had tested the setup before the show, but the volume of the actual recording was way too loud and distorts the audio.  Oh well…. maybe I’ll record something for the weekend  😀

I know it’s tax day and we could all use a break from this stress, but I feel like hell.  ><

I was hoping to be able to do a show, but I need to rest and take care of myself.  Sorry guys.  I’ll try to have a new DL available for the weekend, though.

An very energetic set inspired by the music I was hearing at Ultra, it’s only problem was Ustream breaking the recording into 2 parts. Thankfully the break happened at about 20 minutes in, so part 2 is lengthy and uninterupted.  I’ll probably be making it into an mp3 for DL.

So, I’m not typically for celebrating weird little events and stuff (note that it’s the end of February and I just realized what I’m about to say), but I thought I’d just say I completed last year’s goal 😀

I started out January ’08 with a mission to mix at least one CD a month.  That started out as my If at First series.  Those CDs are purposely themed.  A CD should have definite flow and purpose.  I got 6 of them done.  I was working on the 7th when I had the idea of broadcasting live.  I was first thinking of just an audio broadcast, but being a geek, I craved something more.  So that’s when the search for a video application began, ending with Ustream (who has, apparrently upgraded their servers/network 😀 ) which provides chat, too.  PERFECT!

So in July, I started Memory Lapse.  Twice a month I’d spin live for 2 hours.  Definitely more content than a 70 minute CD once a month.  Once in a while, I would do bonus shows, live-remote house parties, or just turn the camera on and practice with a few friends listening and chatting.  The show quickly went from twice a month to weekly!  Some shows have been good, some have been amazing.  There’s a lot to get used to when you have to play for 2 hours every week.  If I was getting paid for it, I’d buy more music a lot more easily, but as it is, I have to be careful with my music selection.  That, hopefully, is in the process of changing 😉

So regardless, I have way more than the 12, 70 minute recordings that I was initially going for.  And I’d like to thank a few people:

• monk doc, the moj, and the civ for just being you and letting me be me
• the901 for harassing me until I started DJing again
• eldanen for all the support and, i’m pretty sure, not missing a show yet
• werd for letting me drag my equipment to his place and do parties there
• hiroshi for the name Memory Lapse
• teki for being my arch-nemesis… but still cool!
• and everyone else that comes by, shows support, downloads, clicks on ads, whatever 😀 😀
